Heritage Site Climate Monitoring at a Seasonally-Staffed Fortress

Updated: 7 days ago

In a groundbreaking project, Bev/Art and Østfold Museums, with conservator Juliane Derry, have revolutionized heritage conservation at Fredriksten Fortress.

Our latest endeavor involved installing cutting-edge climate monitoring sensors to safeguard historical objects, some on loan from notable institutions like the Swedish Army Museum and the Swedish History Museum.

Challenges & Solutions‍

The fortress's thick walls and seasonal staffing presented unique challenges, especially for the live monitoring of invaluable artifacts. Our solution: deploying advanced sensors capable of penetrating the fortress's dense structure, ensuring 24/7 surveillance and protection from a distance.

Impact

This technology not only secures the artifacts but also sets a new standard in conservation, showcasing how innovation can assist in preserving our cultural heritage for future generations.
